PROFESSIONAL MENTOR
My professional mentor was Mr. Ryan Bleth, a chemistry teacher at Legacy High School. He allowed me to attend parent teacher conferences, a chemistry PLC meeting, a department meeting, and a staff development day. These experiences allowed me to see the day to day experience of a teacher and understand the importance of collaboration. The teachers in the chemistry PLC move through content simultaneously. If one teacher struggles to cover content in a timely manner then they effect the movement of the whole team. This connection between teachers surprised me. A teacher has to know how to communicate effectively and work well with others in their field. Teachers also have to learn to communicate effectively with parents as well as help them to feel heard and appreciated.

FACULTY MENTOR
My faculty mentor was Mrs. Cain, emerging leaders academy director and education instructor at the University of Mary. We had discussed many topics concerning my future career in education. She gave me advice as I prepare to begin student teaching in the spring. She knows me very well and we were able to discuss the aspects of teaching that I struggle with. She gave me examples of stores where I could find clothing that was both modest and professional. She helped me decide if it was prudent to continue coaching speech while student teaching by pointing out all of the factors I needed to consider. Mrs. Cain also encouraged and supported me in finding a summer job that would develop my skills and encourage my passion for teaching as well as biology.
