The best and only true way to lead is to stand beside those you are leading and work together for the good of others. My development as a servant leader has come in the form of the projects completed through ELA as well as the various other service opportunities offered by other organizations at the University of Mary. Service and leadership opportunities I have participated in within ELA have included the optimist club backpack project, no excuses university program, and various banquets. A few opportunities outside of ELA include Day of Service and Wish Fast. I have truly learned that leadership is not about simply leading a group of people to a specified goal. Leadership is about taking action to make the world a better place. Service has helped me to develop me as a person and a leader by widening the scope through which I view the world. Helping others reminds me that my life is not about me, it is about what I can do for others.
